The team at the animal clinic in The Hague

Many people regard their pet as part of the family. Just as you would not take your children to a stranger, you will want to know who will treat your beloved pet. As such, it is possible to make a free appointment for an introductory chat. Meanwhile, allow us to introduce ourselves.

The vets

Marinka Rijks

After graduating in Ghent (Belgium) in 2003, I worked for various veterinary practices in The Hague and the surrounding area. I have been working at Animal Clinic Aan de Laan since 2010. I knew the practice from a previous internship and I always liked it. It is a sociable practice that is highly dedicated to both pets and their owners.

In addition, I find the combination of operations, dental care, examinations and consultations appealing. I am very pleased with our digital X-ray equipment and our recently acquired ultrasound equipment. At present, I am focussed on ultrasound scans.

At home, I have a cat called Pietsa. She is extremely lovable and likes to curl up on my lap in the evenings. In my free time, I am usually out and about with my dear son and daughter. If I have any additional time, I read a book or go for a run.

The assistants

I have been associated with the practice for many years now. Together with practice mascot Brisa I work 4 days a week at the practice. In addition, I often run emergency services and do part of the practice administration.

Brisa also got a friend at home, cat Dirk.

I have been fascinated by animals and nature from a young age. During my study, HBO Animal and Livestock Farming (major in animal health care), and in the professional field I have gained a lot of knowledge about animal behavior.

I have been working at the Auwerda Veterinary Practice since 2010 as a veterinary assistant. Initially as an on-call worker, but now a fixed day of the week. I am especially interested in rabbits. By keeping rabbits for years, I have greatly increased my passion and knowledge about this species.

In addition to working as a veterinary assistant, my other passion is photography. This passion led to starting my own business as an independent pet photograhper10 years ago. The photos displayed in the practice were taken by me.

From an early age I knew I wanted to work in a veterinary practice. When I learned about the profession of veterinary assistant, I knew for sure: this is what I want to do. In 2015 I graduated as a para-veterinary assistant.

I started working for a garden center in the animal department for 1.5 years. But I more and more started to long for working at a veterinary clinic. The moment I saw the vacancy, I took my chance. I have been working here since 2017 with great pleasure and passion.

At home I enjoy my own lovely cats Flippie and Jaapie.

In early 2021, I joined veterinary practice Auwerda. Here I began my first internship for my paraveterinary training. Not only was I able to do all my internship hours here, I am now officially part of the team!

At home, I have always been surrounded by animals. Dogs, cats and also the occasional less traditional animal. Currently I have two dogs (Misa and Bobo) and a cat (Otje).
